Inflammation can be caused by a variety of conditions, including bacterial infection, poor diet, chemicals, hormonal imbalance and physical injury. Certain essential oils have been documented to be excellent for reducing inflammation. German Chamomile contains azulene, a blue compound that is highly anti-inflammatory.

Other oils that are anti-inflammatory are peppermint, melaleuca alternifolia, clove, mountain savory, dorado azul, palo santo, and wintergreen.

Some oils are better suited for certain types of inflammation.

For Example:

Myrrh, vetiver, cistus and helichrysum work well for inflammation due to tissue/capillary damage and bruising.

German chamomile and melaleuca alternifolia are helpful with inflammation due to bacterial infection

Ravensara, hyssop, myrrh and thyme are appropriate for inflammation caused by viral infection.

Single oils – Clove, Nutmeg, lavender, ravensara, thyme, German chamomile, Roman chamomile, cypress, myrrh, hyssop, peppermint, wintergreen, helichrysum, palo santo and copaiba.

Blends: Purification, PanAway, Aroma Siez, Melrose, Relieve It, Deep Relief Roll-On.

Ortho Ease and Ortho Sport Massage Oils

At the 2005 Young Living convention Sue Chao did a presentation on the anti-inflammation properties of essential oils. At that time they had been doing studies on 77 single oils for their anti-inflammatory action and here are the top 6 – Oregano, Nutmeg, Lemongrass, Melaleuca ericifolia,
Dill and Peppermint.

Palo santo and copaiba weren’t listed because that was before Young Living had been farming and distilling oils from ecuador.

One reason I decided to put this information together on inflammation is because I recently injured my left knee and it was causing me a lot of pain. Since painful injuries are full of inflammation I decided I needed to remind myself of the oils that are helpful for inflammation.

I have been really impressed with the anti-inflammation properties in Dorodo Azul, Palo santo and Copaiba. I really noticed improvement after I started using these oils.

Sulfurzyme is a great supplement for inflammation, and another excellent one is BLM – for bone, ligament and muscle.

From the book The Inflammation Syndrome – highly recommended reading. Inflammation is the body’s response to infection. Inflammation is the body’s response to injury. Inflammation consists of swelling, redness, pain, loss of function, heat. Heart disease is inflammation of blood vessels. Asthma is inflammation of alveoli. Alzheimer’s is inflammation of key nerve pathways.

Oil protocol from Gary Young – 20 drops Vetiver, 6 drops of Balsam Fir and 5 drops of Peppermint premixed and applied on location followed with Ortho Sport. He uses this formula in premix and also uses them internally. He mentioned that this protocol works for nerve pain, for reducing inflammation, for bone, ligament and muscle tissue and also for sciatica and herniations of discs.

“I couldn’t live without BLM and Sulfurzyme. I have chronic pain and these two, plus AlkaLime at bedtime, all really help. I also use Idaho Balsam Fir, Copaiba, RutaVaLa, Aroma Siez and Relieve It regularly. Sometimes I use Debbie Hurley’s LEW protocol (Lemongrass, Elemi and Wintergreen, layered in that order). I drink 1-2 ounces NingXia Red, tons of water and walk 3 miles every day. Hope this helps and thank you for ALL you do to keep this group a happy, kind, generous spirited place.” — Rachel

“In addition to my cleanse (which I was doing anyway) I added BLM and Sulfurzyme internally. I can also suggest Cypress (for circulation) on the area where the pain is, followed by Peppermint (to take down inflammation.) The problem is that if you have a high level of toxicity in your body from foods and your environment, oral supplements and oils will take a lot longer to work. Cleaning up nutritionally will help you get more benefit and faster.” — Carla

Deep Relief Roll-On by Young Living OilsHave you tried Deep Relief Roll-On from Young Living Essential Oils? I originally got it for muscle aches and pains but recently discovered Deep Relief is awesome for relieving bad headaches.

Deep Relief Essential Oil Roll-On is a blend of peppermint, wintergreen, copaiba, and palo santo, along other essential oils. Forehead and facial tension, tight muscles, and overall muscle discomfort are daily occurrences for many people. Deep Relief Essential Oil Roll-On offers a convenient, natural solution to these indications and is available in a portable roll-on applicator, making natural relief available anywhere.

I use the Deep Relief on the forehead as normal when I have a normal headache but when I have a really bad headache, I get better relief when I inhale it. I mean deep inhaling using the technique below.

Deep Inhaling Deep Relief Roll-On For a Headache

Remove the cap and put the roll-on ball near your right nostril without touching the nose but get as close as you can.

Use your finger to close off the left nostril. Then inhale through the nostril that is not closed off.

Deeply inhale several times. I usually inhale about 5 times then switch to the other nostril, closing off one nostril while inhaling through the open one.

Switch back and forth a few times until the headache is gone.

Try Deep Relief Roll-On from Young Living Essential Oils sometime. You’ll love it.

Valor essential oil blend is an oil that I consider to be very special. It’s a powerful tool for massage therapy and other natural health practices, but also wonderful in every day life. It is one of my top 5 “Never Do Without” oils. Have you tried it yet? I LOVE this oil blend. Not only does it smell great but it has so many uses.

Here are a few of my favorite ways to use the amazing Valor essential oil blend.

  • Chiropractor in a Bottle – I think this is my favorite way to use Valor oil. Valor balances the body’s energy and emotional side but it also helps the body self correct its spinal alignment. That’s why it is often called “chiropractor in a bottle.”

Valor Essential OilHere is a quote from D. Gary Young:
“I made an interesting discovery about skeletal alignment with a formula I made called Valor. I made the discovery while applying it to the bottom of a person’s feet. Valor has a very low frequency of 47 Hz, which works with the skeletal frequency of the bones. The bones have an electrical frequency of 45 Hz. These frequencies together allow the muscles and tendons to relax and the bones and vertebrae to move and self-correct the skeletal alignment.”
From Aromatherapy The Essential Beginning (pgs 30 & 31)

Rub 5 or 6 drops on the bottom of your feet along the spine points. They run from the big toe along the inside of both feet.

  • Mood Uplift – Valor is a very mood uplifting. When I need a pick me up put a few drops of oil in my hands, then rub them together and inhale. You can wear Valor like perfume. It smells great and it is very balancing emotionally.
  • When You Need Courage – One thing about Valor is that it is great to use when you need that extra boost of courage, confidence and self esteem.
  • When You Need a Good Night’s Sleep – Rub Valor on the bottom of your feet before bed time. It is very relaxing. It also helps if you have restless legs at night.
  • Enhance EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) – Valor is an oil I regularly use when doing EFT. Put a couple drops of Valor on your fingertips and start tapping on the Karate Chop Point. The oil will carry to all the other points as you are tapping. It makes for a very powerful EFT session, especially when you are working on confidence, self-esteem issues or releasing fears.

Many of the negative emotional issues are based in fear. Procrastination is one example. Sometimes we procrastinate because we feel a little fearful about some aspect of the thing we are procrastinating about. Try Valor in your next session of EFT. You’ll find that essential oils really enhance the EFT process.

The Law of Attraction is an amazing energy. It is always at work. We attract whatever matches the energy or vibrations we are sending out or radiating. If we have a fearful energy because we are listening to the news and hearing about how bad the economy is, we will attract negative things. It becomes more difficult to attract the abundance we want in our life.

I have been using Abundance oil for over 15 years. It was the first Young Living oil I used and it is the reason I am with Young Living Essential Oils today.

Abundance Essential Oil BlendAbundance oil raises your energy to a more attracting energy. It also is very mood uplifting. Abundance is a wonderful oil to enhance the Law of Attraction. EFT is also a powerful tool to use along with the law of attraction. Put EFT and Abundance oil together and you have a really powerful tool to attract abundance.

Daily EFT can really set the tone for your abundance energy as you set about to do the daily tasks in your business. Not only does EFT help remove fears but it also enhances the law of attraction.

If you are in any kind of business, you need to have a good energy that attracts business. This good energy is needed in all aspects of our life, not just business. We can be abundant in all kinds of ways. When we have a good positive energy, we have a better mood and things just seem to work better. We have more fun in our life. Abundance overflows into all areas of our life.

The EFT tapping session in the video below is full of positive affirmations around attracting abundance. Put a couple drops of Abundance oil blend on your fingertips and begin tapping.

With all the stress we face every day we can easily find ourselves feeling bad and reaching for a snack. Do you ever find yourself falling into a habit of emotional eating to deal with the stress?

I learned something interesting this morning that helped make a connection in my brain. I happened to be listening to the Today Show. There was a segment on how your personality could contribute to weight gain. They mentioned how stress raises cortisol levels. We knew that but here’s the thing I didn’t realize: When your cortisol level is high, you start craving carbs.

Here’s another interesting thing . . .

Did you know that eating sugar and starchy carbs raise your cortisol levels even higher?
So as cortisol goes up, it increases carb cravings, and after indulging in starchy or sugary carbs, guess what else follows suit with it? Depression. This contributes to the vicious cycle of emotional eating.

Stress Away Roll-OnThis information really got me excited. Recently I learned that Young Living’s Stress Away Roll-On was especially useful to help with stress related eating. I have been using Stress Away in the afternoons and evenings ever since I learned about that. I have noticed that, when I use Stress Away I have a much easier time resisting the urge to have a snack. Now hearing that bit about cortisol levels this morning really reinforced my intent to keep using Stress Away.

I’m enjoying a cup of Slique tea and rolling on a bit of Young Living’s Stress Away as I write this blog post. It has been a strangely stress filled day today and I am thankful for these new products from Young Living. Have you tried the Slique Tea? Oh MY!! I love the taste. It’s yummy!

You attract more of whatever you focus on with emotion. If you spend a lot of time thinking and feeling stress about things you don’t like about yourself, you actually create a block to changing it.

Acceptance Essential Oil BlendThis is where Young Living’s essential oil blend Acceptance can be helpful. Acceptance oil blend helps you accept things as they are right now.

I used to feel I didn’t want to accept myself the way I am because I have pounds to lose and I felt that if I accepted myself as I am, that would make me not want to release the excess weight. So I fought it all the way but what I didn’t realize is that when I put all that negative energy into something I hate, I actually make it harder than ever to release the weight.

The subconscious is a funny thing. When you can accept things as they are, you have a more peaceful approach to things you intend to change. The emotional blocks disappear. This is an issue I have struggled with because it is easy to slip back into negative emotion over things I don’t like. It is also the reason I made up and EFT tapping sessions on this very issue.

The EFT Sessions below were originally part of the 30 Day Self Esteem Challenge on on my other blog. I use Acceptance oil blend for both of these EFT tapping sessions but you could also use other oils in rotation. I also use Release oil blend for the tapping session on Releasing Negative Self-Image.

I recommend doing these sessions multiple times. It can be a deep seated emotional issue and may take several rounds of EFT.

Procrastination is one of the biggest problems with weight loss. We get stressed out and we reach for our favorite comfort food. Other things are more important today we’ll exercise tomorrow.

Doing some EFT for procrastination may be helpful if you have this problem.

Put a couple drops of Motivation oil on your fingers and start tapping the EFT points starting on the Karate Chop Point while saying:

Even though I can’t stop procrastinating, I deeply and completely love and accept myself.
Even though I don’t feel like exercising, I deeply and completely love and accept myself.
Even though I don’t feel like exercising, deeply and completely love and accept myself.

(Or, Even though I don’t feel like eating healthy …)

Round One: Focusing on the Feelings

(eyebrow) I don’t feel like exercising.
(side of eye) I’ll start tomorrow.
(under eye) I just can’t seem to get started.
(nose) I am resisting getting started.
(chin) I don’t feel like it.
(collarbone) I should be exercising.
(under arm) I know I will feel better if I exercise.
(head) The days keep going by without exercise

(eyebrow) I don’t want to exercise right now.
(side of eye) Yes I do want to release excess weight.
(under eye) I’m feeling helpless and stuck.
(nose) I know I need more exercise.
(chin) Exercise is boring.
(collarbone) I am tired of thinking about it.
(under arm) I’m tired of always putting this off.
(head) Release and let go of the procrastinating.

Round Two: Implant Positive

(eyebrow) I want to get moving.
(side of eye) I choose to get moving.
(under eye) I step out of my habit of procrastination.
(nose) I choose make better choices with my time.

Other oils you might try: Magnify Your Purpose, En-R-Gee

Motivation oil blend is another one of my favorites. Just as the name implies, it energizes and motivates. I love this oil whenever I am having trouble getting motivated to do any task.

Motivation oil is an absolute MUST before I exercise. It helps me get started but it also helps me stick with the exercise longer. This is one I admit I need to use more for exercise. I tend to get focused on other projects and exercise is not always my priority.

I like to put motivation on my throat area. I put just a drop on my finger, then rub it in the center.

Motivation oil is AWESOME with EFT. Just add 2 drops to your fingertips before you begin tapping the points.

Try the EFT for Motivation Tapping Session in the video below.

There are some things that really can be scary and uncomfortable. When you need a shot of courage, why not try Valor essential oil with a bit of EFT. Valor, as the name implies, is an oil blend that is very strengthening emotionally. It is the oil to use when you need a shot of courage.

Valor is a wonderful oil for use with Emotional Freedom Techniques. I love Valor when I am facing something that makes me feel uncomfortable or afraid. Most definitely whenever you are stepping out of your comfort zone. This is the oil that helps you relax about it.

It has spruce, rosewood and frankincense in it. Tree oils seem especially grounding emotionally.
An added bonus is that Valor also smells awesome.

There are lots of fears that you can use this on. Here is an example of an EFT Session on fear of public speaking:

    Tapping on Karate Chop Point:

Even though I am terrified to speak in front of people, I deeply and completely accept myself.

Even though I can feel my breathing constrict and my heart is pounding, I deeply and completely love and accept myself anyway, without judgement.

Even though I can’t imagine standing in front of a group, I’m afraid to speak. I might say something stupid and they all see it, I deeply and completely love and accept myself anyway.”

Tapping all the other points, first a round of negative tapping:
“I am afraid to speak up in front of others in case I make a mistake and they laugh at me or ridicule me.”

Then one round of positive tapping:
“I comfortably and easily speak up for myself in a confident manner.”

Use the same formula for other things you have fear of. Just replace public speaking with whatever the fear is and express the feelings.

Try using Valor along with the EFT session below.
EFT Tapping Clip – Fear of Leaving My Comfort Zone

YL Members: I am using Valor Oil Blend. See the printable scripts for other options.

I use Emotional Freedom Techniques every day. I really love it for clearing all kinds of issues that would hold me back. I have cleared lots of fears including a fear of flying. I have released anger and relieved stress and anxiety and a bunch of other negative emotions.

I always add essential oils to EFT sessions to enhance the process. Young Living has several wonderful essential oil blends that work well with emotional issues. They are very mood uplifting and very powerful when dealing with emotional issues.

One of my favorite oils to use with Emotional Freedom Techniques is Release essential oil blend.

Release oil blend combines uplifting, calming oils that stimulate a sense of peace and emotional well-being, which in turn facilitates the ability to release anger and frustration. Release promotes harmony and balance in the mind and body, and helps eliminate the adverse effects of repressed emotions on health and wellness. Place three to four drops of Release oil blend over the liver or on the sternum for a grounding effect, and feel increased emotional strength as you let go of the past once and for all.

I have had a couple people tell me that they feel the urge to talk and unload about whatever is bothering them whenever they use Release oil. This just seems like an obvious choice when doing EFT. It is a great one for releasing negative emotions but especially anger.

How to Use Release Essential Oil With EFT:

Apply 1 – 3 drops of Release oil on your fingertips, then tap on the Karate Chop Point with the oiled up fingertips. As you are tapping the EFT Points, you will have enough remaining oil to carry to all the other points.

I really love using Release oil for the Tap While You Gripe” technique. Just tap and talk until you have unloaded all the negative feelings. It’s so liberating.

Try Release oil blend with the EFT session below on releasing negative feelings you feel about yourself.
